Meet Raven Thomas, M.A., LPCC-S

Mental Health Therapist in Kent, OH

I work with teens, college students, and young adults who are often thoughtful, caring, and incredibly hard on themselves. They often feel things and emotions deeply, worry about disappointing people, question whether they’re doing enough, and sometimes feel lost in the middle of becoming who they’re supposed to be.

If that sounds familiar, I want you to know something: you don’t need to have yourself—or your story—perfectly organized before coming to therapy. You can show up uncertain, emotional, hopeful, frustrated, or unsure where to begin. Your whole story is welcome here. My role is to walk alongside you as you learn more about yourself and decide what you want your next steps to look like.

Specialties

I enjoy working with teens, college students, and young adults experiencing:

  • Anxiety & Overthinking
  • Perfectionism & Self-Criticism
  • People-Pleasing & Boundary-Setting
  • Emotional Regulation & Big Feelings
  • Self-Esteem & Identity
  • Relationship & Communication Challenges
  • School, College & Career Pressure
  • ADHD & Executive-Functioning Challenges
  • Motivation, Procrastination & Getting Started
  • Stress, Burnout & Achievement Pressure
  • Major Changes & Life Transitions
  • Parent–Teen Communication & Family Stress

I also enjoy helping parents and caregivers better understand what their teens may be experiencing and find healthier, more connected ways to communicate.

These are starting points; not boxes you have to fit into. Therapy with me is about understanding the whole person—not placing you into another box. If you know something feels hard but aren’t sure what to call it, we can talk about that too.

What Therapy With Me Can Feel Like

Therapy with me is a place to exhale. You can bring the messy thoughts, the big feelings, the questions you keep circling back to, and the parts of your story you haven’t known how to say out loud.

I believe therapy should feel like a conversation with someone who genuinely wants to understand you—not like sitting across from someone who is analyzing every word you say. You deserve a space where you can be honest, curious, uncertain, hopeful, and fully yourself.

My approach is warm, co-creating, practical, and shaped around the individual person in front of me. I won’t hand you a one-size-fits-all version of healing. We’ll pay attention to what matters to you, move at a pace that makes sense, and make room for the person you are—not just the person you’ve felt pressure to be.

Our work may involve understanding why your mind jumps to the worst-case scenario. Sometimes it may mean practicing boundaries, learning how to manage overwhelming emotions, or separating your worth from how much you accomplish. Other times, you may simply need a place where you don’t have to pretend you’re fine.

I’ll bring clinical knowledge, honest support, and practical tools. You’ll bring your experiences, your goals, and your understanding of your own life. Together, we’ll find a path that feels useful, realistic, and genuinely yours.

My Background and Credentials

I hold a Master’s Degree in Counseling from John Carroll University and I am an Ohio Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor Supervisor (LPCC-S). I bring over 10 years of experience providing welcoming community mental health services that support individuals at every stage of life, from children to older adults, family collaboration, behavioral health leadership, and clinical supervision.

These experiences have taught me that meaningful therapy is not about trying to “fix” a person. It begins with listening, building trust, recognizing strengths, and helping someone feel more connected to themselves and the life they want to create. They have also shaped something I carry into every session: people do better when they feel heard, respected, and involved in their own care.

Why Color Outside The Lines?

Color Outside the Lines Counseling was built around a simple belief: you deserve support that sees the whole person, including the parts that don’t fit neatly inside anyone else’s lines. I don’t believe you have to make yourself smaller, quieter, or more “together” to deserve support. There is room here for every layer of you—the hopeful parts, the uncertain parts, and the parts still figuring things out. We can question old expectations, understand yourself more deeply, and discover ways of living that feel more honest and sustainable.

You don’t have to follow someone else’s timeline. You don’t have to heal in a perfectly straight line. And you don’t have to shrink yourself to fit inside a life that no longer feels like yours.

We can make sense of the messy middle together.
