Terms of Service

The ground rules for using this website and for getting in touch through it.

Last updated: September 23, 2026

What These Terms Cover

Color Outside The Lines Counseling is a private therapy practice based in Kent, Ohio, offering therapy in person in Kent and virtually across Ohio. These terms apply to this website and to the ways you can reach the practice through it: the email links, the consultation request, and the online booking portal.

They do not cover therapy itself. Once you become a client, the therapy is governed by the informed consent and practice policies you receive before your first session, and by the Privacy Policy and the Notice of Privacy Practices described below.

By using this website or sending an enquiry through it, you are accepting these terms. If you do not accept them, please do not use the site — and please still feel welcome to call.

This Website Is Not Therapy

Reading this website does not make you a client, and using it does not create a therapist-client relationship with anyone at Color Outside The Lines Counseling. A therapist-client relationship begins only when you and the practice have both agreed to it, in writing, and a first appointment has been scheduled.

Nothing on this site is medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment, and nothing on it is a substitute for therapy or for care from a qualified professional who knows you. Articles, resources and answers to questions are general information written for a broad audience, and they may not fit your situation.

In an Emergency

This website is not monitored, and nothing sent through it reaches anyone in an emergency. Requests for appointments are read during business hours.

If you or someone else is in immediate danger, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department. If you are in crisis and need someone to talk to, call or text 988 for the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, any time. In Ohio you can also reach Ohio CareLine at 1-800-720-9616.

Fees, Booking and Payment

Current rates are published on the Fees & FAQs page, and they are what apply when you book. Fees are due at the time of service unless you have agreed something else with the practice directly.

Consultations, appointments and payments are handled through the practice's client portal at coloroutsidethelinescounseling.clientsecure.me, which is operated by SimplePractice, LLC. Sessions are paid in United States dollars. Any payment terms, receipts or refunds are governed by what the portal and the practice's policies say at the time of the transaction.

Therapy intensives are private-pay services, and the $425 intensive fee is charged 7 days before a scheduled intensive. Upon request, the practice may provide appropriate documentation for a client to submit for possible out-of-network reimbursement. Whether reimbursement is paid is determined by the client's insurance plan and is not guaranteed. The practice is otherwise a private-pay practice; the Fees & FAQs page explains how superbills and insurance work here.

Cancellations, Late Arrivals and No-Shows

At least 24 hours' notice is required to cancel an appointment. If notice arrives less than 24 hours before the appointment, the full cost of the session is due.

If you arrive late, the session still ends at its scheduled time, so the time lost is not made up. Time set aside for a session is time that cannot be offered to anyone else, which is the whole reason this clause exists.

A request submitted through the portal is not a confirmed appointment. An appointment is confirmed when you receive confirmation from the practice.

Communicating With the Practice

Email is convenient but it is not confidential. It is not encrypted end to end, it can be read in transit, and it sits in inboxes outside the practice's control. Please use it for practical arrangements — asking about availability, confirming a time, sending your name and a phone number — and not for clinical or otherwise sensitive information.

Anything you do send is handled as described in the Privacy Policy. The practice works Monday–Friday, 9AM–6PM; messages that arrive over a weekend are answered on the next business day.

Clinical Records and Confidentiality

If you become a client, records about your care are protected health information. They are governed by HIPAA, by Ohio law, and by the professional standards that apply to a licensed counselor — not by these terms, and not by anything on this website.

Your rights over those records, and the narrow circumstances in which information may be shared without your permission, are set out in the Notice of Privacy Practices you receive before your first appointment. That notice, not this page, is the document that governs your care. Where these terms and that notice appear to differ on a question about clinical records, the notice applies.

Content on This Website

The words, photographs, illustrations, layout and source code on this website belong to Color Outside The Lines Counseling unless something is credited to someone else. You are welcome to read it, link to it, print a page for yourself, and share a link with someone who might find it useful.

Please do not copy it and present it as your own, republish it in bulk, or use the practice's name, logo or written content to suggest a connection with another business or a professional endorsement. If you would like to quote or reproduce something, ask — the answer is often yes.

Third-Party Services

A few things this website depends on are other companies' services, and your use of those parts is also subject to their terms. Booking and payment run through SimplePractice. Typefaces are served by Google Fonts. Where an insurance-based session is arranged through Grow Therapy, that arrangement is between you and Grow Therapy.

The practice does not control those services and is not responsible for how they behave, but it does choose who it works with, and it will not knowingly send your information somewhere it would not want it to go. Links out of this site do not mean the practice endorses everything on the other side of them.

Accuracy, Availability and No Warranty

The practice aims to keep this site accurate and up to date, and to keep it available. It cannot promise either without qualification: rates and availability change, a page can be edited after you read it, and any website can go down. Where a page on this site and a document you receive directly from the practice disagree, what you receive directly is what applies.

This website is provided as it is, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.

Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, Color Outside The Lines Counseling is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages arising from your use of this website or from any information on it, including lost profits, lost data, or reliance on something you read here.

Nothing in these terms limits any liability that cannot be limited by law, and nothing in them changes your rights under HIPAA, under Ohio law, or under the ethical obligations a licensed counselor owes you. This section is about the website.

Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Ohio, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute arising from them or from use of this website is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in Ohio.

Changes to These Terms

These terms may be updated when the practice or the website changes — a new service, a new booking system, a new legal requirement. When they change, the date at the top of this page changes with it, and the version published here is the version that applies. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.
