Family Collaboration for Teens & Caregivers
Creating More Understanding in the Room
Who Attends?
Family Collaboration sessions may include a teen or young adult and one or more parents, caregivers, or other important family members.
Who participates will be decided before the appointment based on the concern, the goals of the session, and what feels clinically appropriate.
What Can We Work On?
Family Collaboration may help with:
- Recurring communication breakdowns
- Parent–teen conflict
- Feeling unheard or misunderstood
- Different expectations around boundaries and independence
- Preparing for or adjusting to a major transition
- Developing shared plans and realistic agreements
- Repairing after a difficult interaction
- Clarifying how family members can support treatment goals
What Is the Appointment Like?
Each person will have an opportunity to share their perspective. My role is to help slow the conversation down, identify recurring patterns, clarify needs, and guide the family toward one or more practical next steps.
The goal is not to decide who is right or force everyone to agree. The goal is to increase understanding, improve communication, and create a plan that feels more workable.
Is This Family Therapy?
Family Collaboration is a focused service centered on a specific concern, communication pattern, transition, or shared goal. It is not automatically ongoing or traditional family therapy.
Before beginning, we will discuss:
- Who will participate
- Who is considered the identified client
- The purpose and goals of the sessions
- How information may be shared
- Confidentiality and its limits
- Whether the service is standalone or connected to individual therapy
- The expected frequency and length of the work
Which Service Fits My Family?
Choose Family Collaboration when:
A teen or young adult and one or more family members need to participate together to work on communication, understanding, boundaries, repair, or a shared plan.
Not sure which format fits? Schedule a consultation, and we can talk through what is happening before you choose.
