Parent & Caregiver Support
You Deserve Support, Too
Supporting a teen or young adult can bring questions that do not always have simple answers. You may be trying to help while also navigating communication struggles, emotional overwhelm, boundaries, school concerns, independence, or changes within your relationship.
Parent and Caregiver Support gives you a private space to slow down, make sense of what is happening, and develop practical ways to respond.

Who Attends?
These appointments are for parents and caregivers. Your teen or young adult does not usually attend.
This service may be scheduled whether or not your child is currently receiving individual therapy through Color Outside The Lines Counseling.
What Can We Work On?
Parent and Caregiver Support may include:
- Understanding anxiety, ADHD, emotional dysregulation, or avoidance
- Responding to big emotions without escalating the moment
- Strengthening communication
- Setting clear and realistic boundaries
- Supporting growing independence
- Preparing for difficult conversations
- Navigating school, college, or life transitions
- Creating more consistent responses at home
- Caring for yourself while supporting someone else
What Is the Appointment Like?
We will begin with what has been happening, what you have already tried, and what feels most difficult right now. Together, we will identify patterns, explore what may be underneath the behavior, and create practical next steps that fit your family’s real life.
This is a supportive and collaborative service—not a place to blame parents or provide a list of everything you should be doing differently.
Is This Part of My Teen’s Therapy?
It can be, but it does not have to be.
When Parent and Caregiver Support is connected to a teen’s individual therapy, the teen remains the identified client. The purpose of the caregiver meeting is to support the teen’s treatment while respecting their privacy.
When it is scheduled as a standalone service, the parent or caregiver receives support around their own role, responses, and concerns. The service format, documentation, and privacy expectations will be explained before the first appointment. This service centers on you in your role as a parent or caregiver. If you want family members in the room together, visit Family Collaboration.
Which Service Fits My Family?
Choose Parent & Caregiver Support when:
You want guidance, education, or help responding to a teen or young adult, and the family member will not attend the appointment.
Not sure which format fits? Schedule a consultation, and we can talk through what is happening before you choose.
